To polish, I first masked off the bezel and then gave the crystal a good wet sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper. This took me about 5-10 minutes. I had to sand pretty vigorously on some of the deeper scratches located at 20 & 50 minutes. My bezel was out by 0.5-1mm. My seamaster diver 300m was pristine and only a few months old. After a while I decided to ask omega to realign the bezel. I took it to a boutique in London, they were very helpful and took the watch in. Not sure whether it went to Switzerland or a service center in the UK.
