I have noticed that on DateJusts, the crown is almost flush with the case, but on sport/professional watches (eg. GMT, Sub, etc) that the crown is noticeably separated from the case so that there is no question that the rubber seals in . Case tubes usually are a simple friction fit, some are threaded. Pitty you already drilled out the threads, a generic Rolex crown tube would have threaded into the hole. Case tubes can be screwed into the case (Rolex, Omega, etc.), they can be press fitted into the case, or on some cheaper brands I have seen them set with epoxy. Some cases have the tube integral to the case, which is a bad idea IMO.
This is a Rolex 1625 Turn-o-Graph case from the late 1960’s. The case tube has damaged crown threads so I want to remove the tube but I don’t see any splines inside the tube for the tube wrench to grab. Shouldn’t it have splines, or .
